VISION AND VALUES

Professional Service

SMC’s Vision of being “the first choice venue for meetings, conference and events in Sydney’s CBD” is not something we take lightly. We are constantly striving to achieve this vision through living and breathing our values of Integrity, Honesty and Diversity. Pleasingly our clients tell us we are on the right track through our monitoring and feedback mechanisms though we do not sit on our laurels.

At SMC our decisions and actions are not guided by commercial success or the bottom line. Of course they’re both important to ensure growth and prosperity, however our decisions and directions are based on the value and benefit to our community. Our community includes our clients and staff, our neighbours and stakeholders, community groups, not for profits and any group or individual that could benefit from using a world class venue like SMC to communicate to their local audience.

SMC strongly believes in giving back to the community by assisting or partnering with a number of industry bodies and culturally aligned organisations through sponsorships, providing in kind support and lending our expertise or experience. Organisations that benefit from this support include cultural organisations, charities, youth groups, not for profits, training organisations and many more.

We have developed long lasting, positive relationships throughout the Sydney CBD with other events and hospitality related organisations to ensure that the wider business community benefits from the significant number of, and range of national and international events held at the SMC.

ARCHITECTURE

Concrete structure and Brutalist forms

SMC is an important architectural landmark in modern Sydney. Designed by the firm Joseland & Gilling, the building is distinguished by its expressed concrete form, bold curves and advanced structural engineering that make it an outstanding example of the Brutalist style. SMC ushers in a new era while paying every respect to the original architecture and spirit of this landmark building. The materials and palette of the original structure carries through the interior design of the recently renovated function rooms on Level 4. Off-form concrete finishes were used internally to reference the exterior treatment. Curved timer battened walls echo the concrete curves of the built form. Timber textures continue throughout with oak framed glazing and bespoke oak furnishings. This design aesthetic brings the mid-20th century Brutalist style into the luxurious 21st century experience.
